Wall of words

This is cool - by naming your favourite word (with reasons why it's your favourite) on this website you can help to earn money for a charity which helps children with communication difficulties. Each word adds a brick to a wall of words, and when the wall reached a mile long, BT Openreach donated £50,000 to the charity. They are now hoping to add another mile.

Across the UK, the most popular word is "love". "Serendipity", "family", "chocolate" and "holiday" were also in the top 10.

There is a gender difference, though - while the top word for women was "love", the top word for men was "antidisestablishmentarianism".

There are also regional differences - the top word for Scotland was "numpty" (apparently because it's "a great word for describing general foolishness"). Meanwhile, the top word in Wales was "cwtch", meaning "cuddle", and the top word in Ireland was "sunshine".

Great idea. I wonder if it allows foreign words - I like Götterdämmerung alot: the Arnold Schwarzenegger of words and then some.

It seems to accept all sorts of words - that Welsh word seems pretty foreign to me - and some very dodgy non-words too. But if it's for charidee...
